If your one of the many people who have gotten into the fresh Litecoin craze the alternative to Bitcoin then you may be wandering how you can go about installing the Litecoin Wallet on your Fedora System.

Well if you recall te the beginning before Ringing Liberty came out with a Bitcoin Repository you pretty much would get your Bitcoin wallet ter a tar.gz format. Presently because Litecoin is still fairly fresh wij face the same issues accept litecoin is te tar.xz. True you can simply samenvatting the verkeersopstopping to any old directory but it wont demonstrate up te our Applications Menukaart on Fedora.

Here I will demonstrate you how I install the Litecoin Wallet on my Fedora System. Very first I download the Wallet from Litecoins webstek. Then I navigate to the directory that litecoin wallet archive is te. I do this from the terminal. All the files I download are located ter $Huis/Downloads for mij. So I would punt the following guidelines.

After I have typed ls -l I will see a list of files te my Downloads directory one of which will say litecoin-x.x.x.x-linux.tar.xz, substitute the crimson X’s with the juist version number. Now wij will samenvatting the files to the /opt directory. To do this wij will type the following.

sudo tar -Jxf litecoin-x.x.x.x-linux.tar.xz -C /opt

Now lets type the following

Wij see the files have bot extracted to the /opt directory te a directory of it’s own called litecoin-x.x.x.x-linux wij will make this lighter now by renaming the litecoin-x.x.x.x-linux directory to something like litecoin so wij will type the following.

sudo mv litecoin-x.x.x.x-linux litecoin

Now lets type the following

Wij will see that the directory name litecoin-x.x.x.x-linux has bot switched to litecoin. Now wij will need to make the directory readable. To do this wij will type the following.

chmod -R +r litecoin

Now lets create an executable for the litecoin wallet. To do this wij will type the following.

sudo touch /usr/bin/litecoin

sudo chmod 755 /usr/bin/litecoin

sudo gedit /usr/bin/litecoin

Your gEdit should have opened up spil root. If so wij will waterput the following text into it.

After wij have entered the above text into gEdit wij can save the litecoin opstopping by pressing CTRL + S then Altstem + F4 to close gEdit. Now lets create our Desktop Icon. To do this wij will need to place the icon ter the /usr/share/applications directory. This means wij will need root priviledges. So wij will type the following directives.

sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/litecoin.desktop

When gEdit Opens up wij will add the following to gEdit.

Now wij will press CTRL + S to save the opstopping then Altstem + F4 to close gEdit.

Now lets test it. Type the following te the terminal

If everything goes well you should your litecoin wallet startup.

  • If you don’t have sudo setup then you can just use su -i instead
  • I chose gEdit spil my text editor but you can lightly use nano or any other editor of your choice
  • There are lots of pics you can use for the desktop icon foin ter the litecoin directory /opt/litecoin/src/share/pixmaps/ feel free to switch to different one
  • If your using a 32 bit system the desktop Exec line from /opt/litecoin/bin/64/litecoin-qt to /opt/litecoin/bin/32/litecoin-qt
  • I felt the best category for my GNOME Den wasgoed under Office Devices which is why I chose it. You can have it somewhere else if you want.
